We have made a MAJOR addition to the office---an i-CAT 3D x-ray machine. Technically, it is a cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging machine that produces images like a CAT scan at a lower resolution and at a fraction of the radiation exposure…actually in the range of 1/100th of that of a CAT scan. The i-CAT has the shortest scan times and lowest radiation of all comparable machines. In addition, we can obtain all of the different 2D x-ray views from a single 5-second scan which lowers the overall radiation dose from that of taking the various necessary x-rays on conventional 2D devices.
As an orthodontist, it is so important that I can accurately detect and visualize the erupted and erupting teeth as well as the entire jaw structure. Impacted teeth and extra teeth can be more easily detected and specifically localized making their needed procedures much more specific and less invasive. Monitoring progress is another tremendous benefit and should allow me to achieve even better results than ever.
While 2D x-rays are currently considered the standard of care, the use of CBCT technology will probably soon become the standard. This new technology has become noticeably prominent during the past 5-10 years, and imaging systems of this type are in a relatively small number of private offices. I feel that this addition to our office was done at a highly appropriate stage in the development of the hardware and software. This represents a significant investment on the part of the practice, but I am convinced it was absolutely necessary for me to deliver the highest quality orthodontic care to which I aspire.
You will be happy to know that we are providing this additional technology at no additional charge to both existing and new patients. You are all invited to visit our x-ray department any time to see what this technology can do. You simply won’t believe it! - Dr. Kuperman
